Designated Nurse for Safeguarding Children - Andrea Derbyshire

The Designated Nurse for Safeguarding Children provides safeguarding, child protection expertise and leadership throughout health and multiagency partnerships. The role is pivotal to complex case management, improved partnership working, strategic planning, quality assurance and performance monitoring. It is essential when advising on the development and provision of services. CCGs and the NHS need a much greater awareness of and commitment to the role to ensure that these key professionals are able to undertake their core function to adequately safeguard and protect the wellbeing of vulnerable children and young people within their geographical footprint.

Designated Nurse for Looked After Children - Sharon Kelly

The Designated Nurse for Looked After Children role is pivotal to strategic planning, quality assurance and performance monitoring and is essential in advising on the provision of services for vulnerable Looked After Children and Care Leavers within the health economy. Further to this, key elements of this essential role are preventing further harm to Looked After Children and ensuring that the complex needs of this transient group of vulnerable children and young people are understood across the health and social care economy.

Designated Nurse Safeguarding Adults – Helen Newton

The Designated Nurse - Safeguarding Adults provides  professional leadership advice, support and expert guidance in respect of Safeguarding Adults, Domestic Abuse, Mental Capacity Act, Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards and the Prevent agenda to ensure that St Helens CCG complies with statutory guidance.  The role is pivotal to partnership working, strategic planning, quality assurance and performance monitoring. The Designated Nurse works closely with commissioned providers and in collaboration with the Local Authority and GP Practices to take forward the safeguarding adults agenda,  to ensure that adults at risk are safe and to support the development and implementation of a cohesive, organisation wide adult safeguarding strategy which reflects national policy, local guidance and best practice.
